How to Market a Blog on Social Media for Sustainable Growth

How to Market a Blog on Social Media

Social media platforms have become one of the most common tools bloggers use to promote their content. Platforms like Instagram, Pinterest, and TikTok made it super easy to share posts, connect with readers, and keep an audience engaged. When it’s used intentionally, social media can help you support (or even grow!) your blog traffic.

But here’s the thing: social media is not the place to grow your blog traffic long-term. It’s just not reliable! People scroll, like posts, move on with their day, and your content just kind of… exists—not supports your brand. This social media hamster wheel, while it seems like an easy choice, isn’t sustainable.

What is sustainable is SEO. In fact, studies show that SEO drives 1,000% more traffic than social media posts—more on that later! Socials give your content an extra boost, SEO is what attracts and converts in the first place.

That’s why the most effective strategy isn’t choosing between the two; it’s understanding how they work together. Today, we’re breaking down how to effectively market your blog on social media and drive traffic to your website. We’ll talk about what it’s best used for, what to avoid, and how to maximize your platforms without relying on them for growth.

There are so many ways to market your blog (and yes—SEO will always be our favorite!). But once you’ve built a social media presence, of course you don’t want all that visibility to go to waste. Now, we don’t recommend relying on social media as your main traffic source. However, it can be an amazing way to boost your reach and connect with your audience from a new angle.

In this post, we’re breaking down how to use social media to drive more traffic to your blog. We’ll also talk about how it works, why SEO remains the top choice, and how InfluencerSEO can make all the difference in your strategy.

Is Social Media the Best Way to Advertise a Blog?

We’ll be honest—social media is not the most effective way to promote your blog. If you want consistent, long-term traffic, SEO is the real MVP. That’s where people actively search for answers, and where your content can shine for years. Which makes sense, right? People run to search engines when they have questions, and the results that pop up? They’re blog posts—not social media posts.

But… social media can still play a powerful supporting role.

More Gen Z users are treating social media sites like TikTok and Instagram as search engines. That means showing up on socials can absolutely give your blog an extra boost. The real magic of social media, though? Connection.

It’s where you build trust, talk directly to your audience, and strengthen your personal brand. And yes, sharing your blog posts and guiding followers back to your site is always a smart move. When you use social media alongside SEO best practices (not instead of it), you’ll get the results you’re hoping for.

How to Use Social Media for Blog Traffic

Turn every blog post into 5-10 micro pieces of content.

You’ve poured hours into creating a high-quality blog post. Don’t let that content live only on your website. Yes, SEO will bring traffic to your blog for years. But in the short term, that post is pure gold for your social media strategy.

A great habit to build is turning each blog post into 5-10 micro pieces of content. Think carousels, short videos, quote graphics, or static posts. This not only fills your social media calendar effortlessly, but it also boosts your reach.

With the right visual appeal and scroll-stopping copy, your audience will want to share your content. But those people who crave more aren’t just clicking onto your post—they’re clicking into your blog. Win-win!

Focus on curiosity-based hooks, not “go read my blog.”

A beginner might post a simple screenshot of their latest blog with a “go read my new post!” caption. But that’s not how social media works. If you want people to leave the app and visit your blog, you need to spark curiosity first.

Figure out which hooks grab attention in videos, carousels, and static posts. Then use those hooks to create micro content that pulls people in. Once you’ve piqued their interest, use the caption or final slide to place calls to action. These will direct them to the full post on your website.

Put the blog link in a high-visibility spot.

Figuring out where to put your blog link on social media can be a little tricky. That’s mostly because these platforms don’t love sending users off the app. But don’t worry! Here are the most effective places to link your blog:

  • Instagram: Link in bio + link sticker in Stories
  • TikTok: Link in bio (or use a Linktree-style hub)
  • Pinterest: Direct link right in Pins
  • Facebook: Link directly in your post (Facebook doesn’t penalize links the way Instagram and TikTok do!)

Blogger Tip: Add UTM parameters to your links to track which platforms drive traffic to your blog. This helps you focus your time on the channels that convert best. Check out our post, “What Is Cross Network in Google Analytics,” for more information.

Start posting on Pinterest.

People think Instagram and TikTok is where the traffic lies. However, one social platform bloggers often overlook is Pinterest. Trust us, it’s a total game-changer. Think of Pinterest as a visual search engine. Users type in keywords, and beautiful graphics appear… each one linking straight to a blog post with the answer they’re looking for. It’s basically Google, but way prettier!

We always recommend Pinterest for bloggers because it’s more reliable than most social platforms. It’s keyword-driven and sends traffic to your blog for years from a single Pin. Want to learn how it works? Check out our post, “How to Get Website Traffic from Pinterest.”

Share snippets on Stories to tease the post.

When you promote your blog content on social media, think of it like creating a mini teaser or movie trailer. Your goal is to build excitement by sharing short, juicy snippets that hint at the full post—without giving everything away. Instagram Stories or TikTok Stories are perfect for this!

It’s a fun way to interact with your audience. Let them know something new is coming and drive them straight to your blog once the post is live. You could also have them sign up for your email list to receive new posts directly to their inbox.

Use SEO-friendly captions for discoverability.

When creating social media content, don’t leave out keywords! Adding them to your captions or on-screen text in your videos helps the platform understand what your post is about. This boosts your chances of showing up in search results and even on the Explore and For You Page. A little keyword strategy goes a long way!

Collaborate with creators in your niche.

One of the smartest ways bloggers can use social media is by genuinely connecting with other creators in their niche. (This is known as social networking, BTW!)

Crossposting, featuring each other, social shares, writing a guest post, and doing small collabs can give your posts a major boost. Plus, it gets your blog in front of new eyes. And of course, your collaborator gets the same benefit.
