How To Create A Landing Page in WordPress

As expert bloggers, WordPress is our fave platform. From designing aesthetic pages to building feature-rich widgets, WordPress has whatever we need to make our blog engaging and effective.

For a website to be effective, it has to draw in organic traffic. That means you have to come up with a strategy for boosting traffic and enhancing the user experience. Your marketing campaign will draw them in and your engaging landing pages will hopefully keep them there.

What was that??? Pages? Multiple landing pages? Yes. We know that might seem tedious and maybe even overwhelming if you’re a WordPress newbie. But, don’t worry! WordPress makes it super easy to assemble new landing pages without hiring an expensive web designer.

So in this post, we will break down the process using a simple step-by-step guide. Nothing intimidating there! We will also give you the deets on creating an effective landing page that’ll capture your audience’s attention. So, let’s dive in, shall we?

How To Create A Landing Page in WordPress

Adding extra landing pages might seem totally non-essential. If you’re a busy blogger who’s wearing a lot of hats (we know you are), spending time creating all these different pages probably sounds like a waste.

Guys, landing pages are integral to making marketing campaigns and engagement efforts super successful, and creating them really doesn’t have to be difficult! It’s well worth the little bit of effort it’ll take in WordPress’s easy-to-use platform to create the perfect page.

What Is A Landing Page In WordPress

Think of a landing page as a digital tour guide for your website visitors. It’s a carefully crafted webpage made to lead your audience towards taking a particular action. Whether that action is signing up for your newsletter, downloading an ebook, or making a purchase, a landing page is created solely to drive conversions.

It’s different from a homepage because it’s usually specific to whatever content the user engaged with. So, whereas a homepage would display all of what your blog has to offer, a landing page would deliver just the parts this user cares about right now.

For example, if you’re a lifestyle blogger and a user clicks on a post about capsule wardrobes, they should be sent to a landing page with your fashion content—not your self-care and fitness section. However, if another follower engages with a post about weeknight recipes, your links should give them the food side of your blog.

This is so important because it helps reduce your bounce rate by giving your readers the content they’re looking for. It’ll give them more time to fall in love with your brand and become lifelong followers. Later, they can browse the rest of what your blog has to offer. For now, feed them what they’re hungry for using landing pages!

How To Make A Landing Page In WordPress

How To Create A Landing Page in WordPress Using the Blog Editor

Using the Block Editor

Step 1: Open your WordPress website.

Log in to your WordPress dashboard.

Step 2: Create a new page.

Click on Pages in your dashboard and then click on Add New. This will open the Block Editor where we’ll do most of our work! Ensure that you give your page a title that reflects the purpose of your landing page for organizational purposes.

Step 3: Choose a template for your landing page.

You can create a landing page from scratch or choose a template that fits your style and purpose. The Block Editor has a lot of landing page design and feature options that’ll help you build out a functional and engaging landing page.

Step 4: Design your landing page.

Next, use the Block Editor’s drag-and-drop builder to add elements like text, images, buttons, audio clips, contact forms, and more. Of course, ensure everything is branded with your colors, fonts, and graphics. Then, it’s just a matter of executing your call-to-action!

What do you want readers to do on this page? Download a free printable? Subscribe to your newsletter? Read all the blog posts in this call to action, make it clear, and offer your website visitors something cool for traveling to your landing page.

When everything looks the way you want, add your metadata with your title tags and description. This will ensure your landing page displays correctly on Google’s search engine results page and draws in even more organic traffic!

Step 5: Save and publish the landing page.

While working on your new landing page, save the draft as you go. It won’t auto-save! Then, when you’re finished, click on the Publish button. When you do that, your landing page is officially live!

How To Create A Landing Page in WordPress Using a Plugin

Using A Plugin

Step 1: Install a landing page builder plugin.

Head over to the Plugins section in your WordPress dashboard and click Add New. Search for a landing page builder plugin that suits your needs. Some popular ones include Elementor, Beaver Builder, and Thrive Architect.

Step 2: Activate the plugin.

After installation, activate the plugin. You do this by selecting Installed Plugins in the left-side menu. You’ll see all your plugins displayed, including your new one. Next to the plugin, it’ll say Activate. Select that button.

Step 3: Create a new page.

After activating the plugin, go to Pages and click on Add New to create a new page. Look for an option related to the plugin (e.g., Edit with Elementor or Edit with Beaver Builder) and select it.

Step 4: Build your landing page.

Now, you’re in the plugin’s drag-and-drop builder. Similar to the Block Editor, you can add and customize elements, making your high-converting landing page stand out. Most plugins offer a live preview so you can see changes in real time.

Beyond design, also ensure you optimize your page for SEO by editing the metadata and the URL. And, if you have any integrations you want to include like an email marketing service or security feature, do that within your plugin editor as well.

Step 5: Save and publish your landing page.

Remember to save your progress along the way. Then, when you’re happy with the way everything looks and functions, hit Publish.

Creating a Page Manually

Creating A Landing Page Manually

Step 1: Open your WordPress website.

First, log into your WordPress dashboard.

Step 2: Add a new page.

Go to Pages and click Add New to create a new page for your landing page.

Step 3: Design your landing page from scratch.

This time, you’ll be using the default WordPress editor. You’ll need to manually add and format all your elements, text, images, buttons, and contact forms.

Design your landing page using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. You can use the WordPress editor or code directly in the Text Editor. Also, ensure your page is visually appealing and includes your engaging content and CTA!

Implement SEO best practices by adding relevant keywords and optimizing meta tags. Consider using an SEO plugin to assist with optimization too, since coding manually is tricky with SEO if you’re not a pro.

Step 4: Save and publish your landing page

Don’t forget to save your work frequently and hit Publish when you’re satisfied with the way it all looks and functions!
