How To Add Pages To Navigation Bar In WordPress

Your main menu is one of THE most important things about your blog’s web design. It allows readers to find what they’re looking for immediately, helping you retain followers, reduce your bounce rate, and showcase all the amazing content you have to offer.

The menu across the top of your web pages is called a navbar, and it usually displays your post topics, important links, and a search bar! Having a well-organized navbar not only makes navigating easy, it also gives your site a more polished look—which gives you more credibility and authority too. All around, a solid navbar is non-negotiable.

Okay, but if you’re looking at your navbar right now and thinking it needs a bit of a facelift, don’t worry! WordPress makes sprucing up your navbar a breeeeze. You’ve got full control to add and rearrange pages however you like and without a master’s in computer science. (Here’s more on why WordPress is our fave blogging platform.)

Today, we’re going to show you how to craft the perfect navbar to match your unique brand vibe. Whether you blog for fun, as a career, or to support your business, these tips will guide you through WordPress-like pros. By the end, you’ll have navigation that really shines. Sound good? Step 1: Access the WordPress dashboard.

To start, log in to your WordPress site and head over to your WordPress dashboard. This is your digital command center where you can control every aspect of your site.

Step 2: Navigate to the menu settings.

In the WordPress dashboard, find the Appearance tab on the left-hand side. Hover your cursor over it, and a dropdown menu will appear. Look for Menu and click on it.

Step 3: Select a menu.

Once you’re in the navigation menu in WordPress, you’ll need to select the menu where you want to add your pages. If you don’t have one yet, you can create a new menu by clicking the Create Menu button.

Step 4: Add pages to the menu.

With your menu selected, it’s time to add pages to it. On the left side of your screen, you’ll see a panel labeled Pages. Simply click on it to show your existing pages.

Step 5: Choose the pages to add.

Check the boxes next to the pages you want to add to your navigation bar. These should be the ones you want people to easily access from the top banner of your website.

Step 6: Click the “Add to Menu” button.

Once you’ve selected the pages, click the Add to Menu button. This action will add the selected pages to your menu.

Step 7: Arrange the menu items.

You can change the order of your menu items by dragging and dropping them. Place them in the desired sequence to create a user-friendly and aesthetic (can’t forget the vibes) navigation bar.

Step 8: Create custom links.

If you want to add links to pages that aren’t on your site, like social media profiles, you can use the Custom Links option on the left panel. Fill in the URL and link text, then click Add to Menu. We definitely recommend adding links to your social channels and LTK, ShopStyle, or Amazon Shop pages if you have them!

Step 9: Don’t forget the submenus.

To create dropdown menus in your navigation bar, simply drag menu items slightly to the right below another item. This will make them submenus under the main menu item.

Step 10: Save your menu.

Once you’ve arranged everything as you like it, don’t forget to save your menu. Click the Save Menu button to make your changes permanent and add pages to your site.

Step 11: Check your changes.

To ensure your navigation bar looks the way you want, visit your site editor or just open your website in a new tab. You should see the updated navigation menus with the new pages and links you added.
