The about page is one of the most important pages on your website. Even if it is not your first blog post, it’s never too late to write an about page for your blog. It’s the first page people look for when they arrive on your site and wonder, who is this person? Your about page is the first place to check when visitors want to know WHO YOU ARE, where you’re located, and what your website is all about. Think of it like the beginning of a relationship with a potential reader. It’s often your first chance to make a good impression and let people know who you are.
The kind of reader checking your about page is likely a new reader, someone looking to solve their pain points, or perhaps a brand interested in working with you. So your about page is incredibly important for making a good first impression, gaining new fans, and hopefully booking more collaborations. In this post you’re going to learn how to write an about page for your blog.
How To Write An About Page For Your Blog:
First, you need to know what an about page is and where it typically appears on your website. Your about page is typically located as one of the main pages in your website header or main menu. It’s also often called your “About Me” page. A lot of bloggers will also usually put a link to their about page in their sidebar. You can use a picture of yourself with a short snippet of your about page as a preview. Or you can simply include a button linking to your about page. Now lets jump into what to include in order to write a killer about me page.
What To Include On Your About Page:
1. Your Name
This should be obvious. People need to know your name. Especially if it’s a brand checking your about page. Especially if your blog name is not your own name. You want people to associate you with your brand or blog name.
2. Where You’re Located
This is important for local brands that are interested in working with you but maybe can’t tell from your name or content where you’re located. It’s also nice for readers to have an idea of where you’re from and live so that they can relate to you better. Having a local following is great because you’ll be more successful if you host events or meetups.
3. A Headshot or Picture of Yourself
Your about page should give people in sight into who you are, including what you look like. A picture really personalizes the page and makes readers feel like they’re meeting you. So include a headshot or picture that is an overall good reflection of you and who you are.
4. Your Story
Writing a good about page on your blog most definitely includes giving people content about who you are, and where you come from. Giving a little background and telling your real life, personal story will connect you with readers. This is a great place to link to any high-quality posts you have on personal life moments, your family, or your hometown. Don’t be afraid to show people you are a real person with a life that they can relate to.
5. Your Awards & Accolades:
Share anything that gives you more credibility in your space. So for example if you’ve won any awards, written a book, are associated with any well known brands or influencers, organizations etc. you can share that.
6. What Your Content Is About
You definitely want to answer this question in order to attract your target readers: What do you write about? Showcasing what kind of value readers can gain from going to your website is absolutely crucial. So don’t just say things like “I post about fashion and wellness”. Dive deeper and give more context. For example if you’re a fashion blogger maybe you say “I share tips for how to style everything from every day basics to statement items.” Then follow it up with a few links to examples of what you just mentioned. So you would link to a post maybe on how to wear a basic white t-shirt multiple ways, and a post on how to wear a sequin skirt.
7. Links To Your Popular Posts
Which brings us to our next point, you must provide a few links to your most popular posts – your really great articles. You can choose which posts to link to based off which are your most visited pages, and which posts you’ve made the most money off of affiliate links on. To find this information you’ll need to dive into your Google Analytics and affiliate platforms.
8. A Few Call To Actions
Don’t forget to include a call to action. A call to action is simply a statement designed to get readers to take some sort of action. Having a call to action on your about page improves the SEO value of the page. Plus, because your about page is a frequently visited page, having a call to action on it is a great place to get readers to take one of your desired actions (like to read your blog). A few examples of great call to actions on your about page include:
- “Follow me on social media”
- “Contact me HERE for brand collaborations”
- “Download my free workout ebook”
- “Subscribe to my events calendar HERE”
- “Follow me on the RewardStyle app HERE”
- ” View my step by step guide for blogging”
- “Sign up to my email list”

More About Me Page For Your Blog Tips:
How Long Should Your About Page Be?
This is subjective, however reading your about page should not take more that 5-10 minutes max. Shoot for at minimum 300 words, ideally 500 words, and no more than 1,000 words.
Creating An About Page:
So, you’ve started a blog but don’t have an about page. How do you add one to your site so you can utilize all the benefits we mentioned above? This is actually a pretty simple & easy task for you as the site owner. To add an about page to your website all you need to do is log into your WordPress account admin dashboard. Click “Pages” on the lefthand menu. Then click “Add New Page”. From there, you’ll treat the About page just like a blog post and add your content. Add the title of the page, start writing the content, etc. just like you would for a blog post. Then publish the page, and add it to your main menu navigation bar.
How To Add Your About Page To Your Navigation Bar
After the page is published, “appearance” then “menus” on the lefthand WordPress dashboard menu. You can select the page under “Add Menu Items”. Simply select the page and click “Add To Menu”. From there you can drag and drop the page where you want it to appear on the menu.
Showcase How You Solve a Problem For Your Readers
Your about page is a good place to explain what value your readers can gain from visiting your site. So make sure your about page spells that out. Are they going to learn how to style items? Are you going to teach them how to make things? Do you offer advice and perspective on topics they are interested in? Explaining what you talk about and how you add value is the best way to encourage people to click around your website for more.
Use Subheadings To Break Up Your About Page:
Keep your about page beautiful, easy to read, and SEO friendly by using subheadings to break up the text. This will also give people browsing your about page easy markers for specific content. So if a brand is scanning your about page, they can quickly skip to the part where you list your most recent, high performing collaborations.
